Almer H. Coulthard

Almer H. Coulthard, 84, of Kellogg died on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. A memorial service will be held at 6 P.M., Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 4 P.M. until the time of service on Friday and again after the service with a meal at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Almer’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Almer, the son of John Henry and Velma (Straight) Coulthard, was born on December 8, 1928 in Montgomery County, Iowa. He grew up in Eagleville, MO where he graduated from high school. Almer served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Almer was united in marriage with Betty Markmann on July 3, 1958 in Newton. They made their home in Newton and later in rural Kellogg. Almer worked for over 36 years as the storekeeper in the storeroom at the Maytag Company, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Siera (South East Iowa English Riding Association), Local UAW 997, Cornerstone Bible Fellowship, Harold McBroom American Legion Post 635, and the Dreamer Camping Club. Almer enjoyed camping and horse shows, going to his grandkids activities, word puzzles, and butterscotch candies.

Almer is survived by his wife, Betty Coulthard of Kellogg; 2 daughters, Fay Ruth Coulthard of Kellogg and Connie Jo (Brian) Miller of Searsboro; his 3 granddaughters, Katie Miller of Grinnell, Jennifer (Nick) McNaul of Searsboro, and Tabi Miller of Searsboro; and his siblings, Laquita Grinstead of St. Joseph, MO, Regina (Eugene) Boothe of Eagleville, MO, Hollis (Fawn) Coulthard of Wheeling, MO, and Clyde (Charlotte) Coulthard of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn son; brother and sister-in-law, Dale (Judy) Coulthard; brother-in-law, Gene Grinstead; and a nephew, Terry Gene Grinstead.
