The American Revolution

The year is 2020. The Great American Revolution reached its bloody end, with millions of people dead worldwide, America losing its position as leader of the free world, and China taking over as Supreme World Commander.

It all started with gun control, that constitutional right, so protected and so abused. In 2016, the President of the United States, shocked and angered by daily horrific gun violence, and caving in to extreme pressure from both the right and left, issued an executive order that all guns were to be confiscated from the general public.

Exhaustive measures and legislation had been tried, implemented, and all had failed miserably as gun violence continued to escalate in direct response to stepped up gun control.

In 2013, the Assault Weapon Ban went into effect, along with stringent background checks required for both business and private weapon sales. The ban had little effect, as there were already millions of assault weapons in the hands of the public.

The black market sale of guns took over, making it actually easier to purchase an assault rifle (and other major weapons, like rocket propelled grenade launchers) after the ban, than before. A government sponsored gun buyback also had little effect, as the only weapons turned in, for the most part, were low grade, old style weapons, from people needing money.

Several mass shootings took place at major sporting events, sending people into the streets rioting, demanding protection. The government, with little other choice, put a ban on all gatherings of more than 25 people, and implemented strict curfews with stiff penalties and fines for violators.

All people were required to carry government identification, and police were authorized, also by presidential order, to stop, search, and detain anyone at any time without cause. The only people allowed on the streets after 9 p.m. were night-shift workers, and they could only travel to and from work, what little work there was.

When gunmen opened fire at a police academy graduation, killing not only police, but family members and innocent bystanders, the presidential order to pick up all guns from the general public went into effect. The military was called in to assist local police with the confiscation.

The government used gun registration lists to track weapon owners. Gun battles broke out at residences, as angry gun owners fought with authorities to keep their weapons.

Not all weapons were confiscated, with many people hiding guns that were not registered. Police utilized image resonance devices to detect hidden stashes. The Mexican Drug Cartel became a major supplier of black market weapons.

Texas and Arizona attempted to secede from the union. The governors of both states joined forces and combined national guard units to fight the federal government. Mexico came to their assistance. WWIII was averted.

Riots broke out in all major U.S. cities, called the American Revolution, led by activists willing to die for their cause. Drones were deployed to quell the riots.

With fighting taking place throughout the country, and loss of life tripling that of the Civil War, the United Nations took over. United Nations troops were sent in to establish peace.

Fuel prices were so high, people could not afford to drive their automobiles, and global warming caused catastrophic weather events around the world. With the U.S. economy on the verge of collapse, and near 50 percent unemployment, China took advantage of the huge debt owed to it by the United States.

The United States became a province of China. Under Chinese authority, there was no constitution, no freedom. And no guns.
