Steven Arnold "Steve" Schnoebelen

MSG Steven Arnold "Steve" Schnoebelen, United States Army National Guard, 59, of Battle Creek, Mich., died peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013.

Steve was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on Oct. 16, 1953, the son of Arnold Vincent and Joan Marie (Stover) Schnoebelen. He was currently serving his country as a MSG in the United States Army National Guard and has also served with the United States Army, with more than 29 years of faithful service and tours in Okinawa & Afghanistan.  

Steve married "the love of his life," Betty Jane Connelly in Newton, Iowa, on May 24, 1980; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Vincent Lee (Erin) Schnoebelen of Athens and Ann Marie Schnoebelen of Battle Creek; two grandchildren, Lauren Maquel and Taylor Ann Schnoebelen; his mother, Joan Schnoebelen; two brothers, David (Sheri) and Donald (Debbie) Schnoebelen; two sisters, Janet (Kevin) Sherlock, Laura (Nick) Thompson; and several nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Arnold Schnoebelen, and his brother, Jeff Schnoebelen.

A true outdoorsman and avid craftsman and do-it-yourselfer, Steve enjoyed working on his home, exercising and spending time with his family. He also liked music and enjoyed playing his guitar.  

At the request of the family, they will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Feb. 13, at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, 105 Capital Ave. NE Battle Creek, MI 49017, where a memorial service to celebrate Steve's life will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 14.  Interment with full military honors will follow at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Mich.
