Jasper County EFSP program

The Jasper County area has been chosen to receive $7013 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in Phase 30 of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program.

The selection was made by a National Board that is chaired by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from American Red Cross, Catholic Charities USA, National Council of Churches of Christ in the U.S.A., The Salvation Army, United Jewish Communities, and United Way Worldwide. The local board was charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the country.

A local board made up of representatives from several agencies will determine how the funds awarded to Jasper County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies. The local board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds available under this phase of the program.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must: - be private, public, voluntary, non-profits or units of government,

be eligible to receive Federal funds

have an accounting system

practice nondiscrimination

have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and

if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board. Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.

Jasper County has distributed Emergency Food and Shelter Funds previously with Jasper County Center, Red Rock Area Community Action Program (RRACAP), and The Salvation Army participating. These agencies were responsible for providing food and shelter assistance.

Private or public, voluntary non-profit agencies and units of government interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds must contact Local EFSP Chair, Travis Padget, Executive Director of the United Way of Jasper County at 641-792-1684 or unitedway@iowatelecom.net for an application. The submission deadline for applications is Tuesday, Feb. 19 by 4pm.
