PCM boys basketball locks up conference title

The Prairie City-Monroe boys basketball team locked up its fourth consecutive Heart of Iowa Conference championship after decimating Saydel (1-19) 68-36 on Friday.

The Mustangs (20-1, 17-1 Heart of Iowa Conference) got out to a 16-5 lead in the opening quarter and only continued to extend that margin the rest of the way. Leading the way in scoring for PCM were seniors Nathan Vande Wall with 16 points, Ethan Kain with 14 and Michael Neff with 13.

Hawk boys grab share of SICL title

The Lynnville-Sully boys basketball team (18-3) boys team clicnhed a share of the South Iowa Cedar League conference title after cruising past English Valleys on Friday night following a dominating second half.

The Hawks (18-3, 18-2) only led by four at halftime, but outscored English Valley 43-9 in the second half and won going away with a final of 64-28. Junior Darin Hofer led the way for L-S with 13 points, while junior TJ Cunningham had 12 and freshman Connor Cullen had 10.

“We struggled offensively and defensively in the first half,” LS coach Nick Harthoorn said. “We brought our intensity in the second half, and our performances both ends of the floor improved. I am happy for the guys that they could bring home a share of the SICL title.”

Bondurant-Farrar ends PCM girls’ season

After a 10-game win streak to close out the regular season, the Prarie City-Monroe girls basketball team’s season came to a sudden end with a 48-42 loss at Bondurant-Farrar Saturday night.

The Mustangs finished with a record of 15-7 overall and 13-5 in the Heart of Iowa Conference, which placed them third.
