NHS honors ’62-’63 state basketball champions

Members of the one of the most prolific high school basketball teams in Iowa high school history were on hand at Newton Senior High School Thursday night, once again earning accolades for their achievement from 50 years ago.

The 1962-63 Newton basketball team went undefeated with a perfect 26-0 record and went on to win back-to-back state championships. Nine members of the team were on hand, including legendary coach Lewis “Buzz” Levick.

A reception was held in the high school multi-purpose room, in which the players chatted with old friends and the current Cardinal basketball team got to meet the players who laid the groundwork for the program.
