Berg to present ‘Dancing Princess,’ ‘Snow White’ Friday
The Berg Middle School Drama Department will present two plays, including “Dancing Princess” and “Snow White,” at 6 and 8 p.m. Friday at the Newton Community Theatre. Sixty-one youth will be featured in the productions.
“Dancing Princess” is based on the tale from is a German fairy tale originally published by the Brothers Grimm in 1812. Every night the princesses’ doors are securely locked, but in the morning their dancing shoes are found to be worn through as if they had been dancing all night. The queen perplexed and promises a daughter’s hand in marriage to any man who can discover the princesses’ midnight secret.
This “Snow White” — from two former Disney scriptwriters — is like nothing you’ve seen before. She has seven fairy godmothers and is an ungraceful, bad-mannered tomboy. Unknown to Snow, her future stepmother is a witch who has designs on the kingdom. When the magic mirror reveals that Snow will inherit the kingdom, Vilenity sends her henchman. Snow escapes, seeking refuge at a cottage of seven fairy godmothers and combining forces with them and a prince to defeat Vilenity.
