Newton boys bowling wins, girls take second in West Des Moines

Apparently a week off from competition was just what the Newton boys bowling team needed.

Freshman Bryan McMahon led all bowlers and the Cardinal boys earned a victory in a five-team field at Val Lanes in West Des Moines. For the second meet in a row, the Newton girls made a comeback after a slow start, but took second place to Knoxville.

"The boy's have shown some marked improvements throughout the season and are starting to realize their full potential," Newton coach Seth Banwell said. "They are consistently making great shots and stringing some strikes together. This is evident by the high Baker scores they demonstrated today."
