Newton junior Jacob Williams takes down DCG's Devin Ginn for two of his eight points. He won the decision, but it wasn't enough for the Cardinals to get by the Mustangs, losing the dual 36-30 (Dustin Turner/Daily News)

Reed credited the team’s lack of experience as the main issue in the meet. Despite Newton perhaps having an edge on talent, their lack of experience in picking up bonus points in matches likely cost them the dual.

“We’re still learning. We’re still growing.” Reed said. “When you’ve got freshmen and sophomores out there wrestling their first season in varsity it doesn’t always go the way you want it to. The guys will come back hard tomorrow and we’ll be ready for the conference meet.”

That big Little Hawkeye Conference meet for the Cardinals takes place at Grinnell on Saturday.
