Lynnville-Sully wrestling goes 1-2 at Tuesday meet

The Lynnville-Sully wrestling team had its hands full on Tuesday night, taking on three teams at Chariton High School.

The Hawks earned one victory and took two losses in the meet, defeating Martensdale-St. Marys 60-16 and losing to Eddyville-Blakesburg 60-24 and narrowly falling to host Chariton 39-36.

In the 60-16 victory, the Hawks took eight forfeits for the bulk of their points. Their two contested victories came from pin by Caden Doll at 160 pounds and Noah Zylstra at 170.

Things were much closer in the dual against Chariton, but they didn’t work out in the Hawks’ favor. Lynnville-Sully got pins by Doll, Shane Thompson (285) and Levi Bennington (152), while Manny Meyer (145) and Noah Zystra earned decisions. However, Chariton earned the three-point victory.

Lynnville-Sully got pins from Doll, Bennington and Cole Nickell (106) and took a forfeit to earn its 24 points.

The Hawks will take part in the South Iowa Cedar League tournament at Hardwick-Ladora-Victor on Saturday.
