Capitol II to host ‘Zombie Night’ Feb. 2

The zombie apocalypse will come to Newton on Saturday, Feb. 2. Well, a kinder, gentler zombie apocalypse, anyway.

For the opening weekend of “Warm Bodies,” the Capitol II Theater in downtown Newton will host a “Zombie Night” promotion, beginning at 7:15 p.m. The goal is to get as many “warm bodies” in the theater as possible as owners attempt to raise the funds needed to convert the historic movie theater to the standard digital format.

“We thought it would be fun to have people come dressed up as zombies,” Capitol II co-owner Dawn Bleeker said. “Zombie Burger in Des Moines is donating some gift certificates.”

Participants can come dressed as zombies to get their names entered into drawings for Zombie Burger gift certificates. The popular Des Moines burger restaurant — as its name might imply — features a zombie-movie-inspired motif and menu.

“Hopefully, Zombie Night is just the beginning of having a fun night out while going to the movies,” Bleeker said. “We are excited that Zombie Burger in Des Moines is helping support our community by sending us gift certificates.”

Additionally, participants will be in line to win movie tickets from the Capitol II.

“Warm Bodies” is a horror comedy in which a zombie becomes romantically involved in the girlfriend of one of his victims, setting in motion a sequence of events that will change the world. It is rated PG-13 for zombie violence and some language.
