Guns aren’t the problem today, a lack of respect for life is

To the editor:

If large-magazine guns are not controlled, there will be more mass killings. If large-magazine guns are controlled, there will be more mass killings.

Those with the intent to kill will find a gun to do so. One can argue there are so many guns available now, and for the foreseeable future, there will be easy access no matter what restrictions might be put on guns.

One can also argue the more guns, the better. One well-placed gun could stop a mass killing.

In his recent theatrical speech to restrict guns, President Obama commented to the effect that “history will judge us by how we protect our children.” What a condemnation for all of us. Fifty million babies have been killed since Roe v. Wade.

Guns aren’t the killing the problem, our culture is. A lack of respect for life is the problem.

To paraphrase Mother Teresa when she was given the opportunity to speak to our nation with President and Mrs. Clinton and Vice President and Mrs. Gore present, she addressed abortion by saying, in effect, if you can kill a baby, then I can kill you and you can kill me.

Unfortunately, her wisdom surpassed the intelligence of the President et al on that day, and continues to do so today.
