‘Where the Rubber Meets the Road’ scheduled for April 13 at Iowa Speedway

Saturday, April 13 is fast approaching as runners and walkers will descend upon Newton for the 7th Annual Iowa Speedway 8K “Where the Rubber Meets the Road.”

“There is still plenty of time for everyone, from the novice to the elite, to sign up for the road race that begins and ends on the start/finish line of the Iowa Speedway,” said Melissa Butler, communications director for Progress Industries.

The $20 early registration closes on Feb. 15, but participants can register up until the day of the race for $35. After a winter filled with cold temperatures and snow, is there a better way to shake off spring fever?

The 8K, or 5-mile, race will start on Pit Lane with the wave of the green flag, continue out and around the Speedway’s property, entering back to the track through the infield tunnel and finishing with a lap around the 7⁄8-mile oval. There will be checkered flags, photos in victory lane and a great curb crowd to keep runners motivated.

According to Debb Smith, director of Iowa Speedway Foundation, everyone who is involved will benefit.

“From the participants in the race, the charities, sponsors or people who are just out to enjoy what is sure to be a great spring day,” Smith said.

Windstream Communications has also been announced as a Major Event Sponsor for the 2013 race which will benefit two worthy charities — the P. I. Foundation and the Iowa Speedway Foundation. Progress Industries provides vocational training and employment services, residential living and day habilitation programs for nearly 280 Iowans with disabilities.

The Iowa Speedway Foundation’s purpose is to contribute to and promote charitable, religious and scientific causes. The Iowa Speedway Foundation was established to show a strong commitment to the community and to support those who need it most.

Runners and walkers who register for the race by February 15 will only have to pay $20. Registrations received after that date, and through race day, will be charged $35.  Sign up online at www.active.com or by visiting www.progressindustries.org or www.iowaspeedway.com to print the registration form.
