Patty Hewitt

Patty “Joan” Hewitt, 74, of Monroe passed away at her home on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, with her loving family by her side. Visitation will be on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation and begin at 2 p.m. at the church with Pastor Stephen Taylor officiating.

Joan was born on July 11, 1938, to Floyd and Margaret (Banks) Kingery in Marion County, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Monroe High School in 1956. After graduation she moved to Des Moines and worked at Bankers Life. Joan met and later married James “Jim” Hewitt on March 6, 1965. The couple settled in Monroe where they remained and have been an active part of the community. Joan was a true entrapanuer and ran many of her own businesses, including Avon sales representative, childcare services, machine quilting company and was a homemaker and caregiver for so many. Joan was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, United Methodist Women and the Avon President’s Club.

Those left to cherish Joan’s memories are her husband Jim of Monroe; daughter Kelly Jo (Jim) Phillips of Monroe; two grandsons Logan Phillips of Monroe and Jacob Phillips of Monroe.
