Kids Against Hunger event set for Feb. 16 in Newton

Saturday, Feb. 16, Jasper County Kids Against Hunger will once again be packaging meals to feed families around the world — and around the corner.

“Our all time high for one event was reached on Nov. 3, when we packaged 25,920 meals with 13 teams taking part,” organizer Bill Bennett said.

Generous and compassionate Jasper County residents will roll up their sleeves and measure, seal and box meals destined for locations including:

• Nicaragua

• Honduras

• Haiti

• Ottumwa

• Iowa City

“Our host for the upcoming packaging event will be St. Luke United Methodist Church,” Bennett said. “Gather a team of 12 and collect $360 in donations, then come and help us feed families around the world — and around the corner.”

The church is located at 501 E. 19th St. N. in Newton.

Churches, schools, service clubs, businesses and individuals are all encouraged to participate in the packaging event.  For more information, or to register, contact Bennett at jasper.co.kah@gmail.com.

Individuals looking for a team to work with are encouraged to contact Bennett, as well. The deadline to register is Feb. 8.
