Ronald D. Parish

Ronald D. Parish, 73, of Monroe died on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. Memorials in Ron’s name may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Ron, the son of Alfred and Mabel (Verwers) Parish, was born on April 16, 1939, in Newton.  He grew up in Killduff and graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School in 1957. Ron served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957-1961 and later graduated from Drake University. Ron was united in marriage with Donna Rozenberg on Sept. 1, 1961, in Killduff. He worked for more than 30 years at the Maytag Company, retiring in 1998 as a Senior Production Analyst. Ron was a member of the First Federated Church in Des Moines and Gateway Recreation. He enjoyed golfing, reading, camping, crosswords, having coffee with the guys, and going to the Iowa State Fair.

Those left to honor Ron’s memory are his wife, Donna Parish of Monroe; daughters, DeAnn (Ken) Johnson of Unadilla, Neb., and JoEllen Van Gorp of Monroe; his four grandchildren, Kathy Billings, Karen Loupee (Brian Cook), Kayla Van Gorp (Jeremy Armison), and Kyle Johnson; step-granddaughter, Crystal Johnson; his five great-grandchildren; a step-great-granddaughter; brother-in-law, Dan Wickliff; special friends of the family, James Shirk and Luke Billings; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Beverly Lyons and Marilyn Wickliff.
