Edith Wood

Edith Wood, 93, of Monroe passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012 at Newton Health Care.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe, with burial following at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. The daughter of Raymond and Ethel (Decker) Koder, Edith was born on Dec. 4, 1919, in Reasnor. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1938. On Oct. 25, 1941, she was united in marriage to Bert Wood. Edith worked as a waitress Dawson’s Coffee Shop and telephone operator at the Reasnor Phone Company.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Sherry (Bill) St. John of Monroe and Deb Williams of Giltner, Neb.; four grandchildren, Brett St. John of Prairie City, Jamie (Lisa) St. John of Newton, Jeremy (Emily) Gildersleeve of Cairo, Neb., and Amy (Jim) Lesonik of Giltner, Neb.; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mabel Sellers; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Edith in death were her parents; husband; two sisters, Dorothy Glascock and Irene Wheeler; and a son-in-law, Steve Williams.
