Marjorie Van Veen, 86, of Newton died on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Nelson Manor.

A private family service will be held. Memorials in Marjorie’s name may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Marjorie, the daughter of William and Tressa (Vander Schel) Schultze, was born on Feb. 4, 1926, in Prairie City, Iowa. She was united in marriage with Garrit Van Veen on Nov. 6, 1943 in Newton, Iowa. They made their home on many farms around Jasper County. Marjorie worked at Parker Super Value, Family Foods, and had made holiday fruit baskets for Hy-Vee. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, the Moose Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary.  Marjorie enjoyed gardening, cooking and canning.

Those left to honor Marjorie’s memory are her two sons, Gary (Melinda) Van Veen of Newton and Kevin W. (Suzanne) Van Veen of Des Moines; two daughters, Gloria Craft of Newton and Linda (Gerry) Trotter of Newton; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Garrit in 2006; and 4 sisters.
