Laura M. Jones

Laura M. Jones, 81, of Newton, formerly of Monroe, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at her home in Newton under the care of Skiff Hospice.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at the funeral home. Memorials to Skiff Hospice may be left at the funeral home.

Laura, the daughter of Clarence and Florence (Smith) Young, was born May 26, 1931, in Newton, Iowa. She was united in marriage with Al Jones on Aug. 25, 1961, in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple had lived in Newton for the past five years. Prior to that, they lived in Monroe for almost 30 years. She had worked as a nurses’ aid in Pella. She also had worked in the kitchen at the Murray Community Schools, at Central College and at Willowbrook Adult Daycare in Newton. She also devoted herself to taking care of her family and her home.

Laura was a member of the First Assembly of God in Newton and the Murray Church of Christ.  She was a strong Christian woman who put her love of God and family first. She enjoyed reaching out to and taking care of others.

Those left to honor Laura’s memory include her husband, Al of Newton; four daughters, Pam Dyer (fiancé, Dwight Clevenger) of Missouri, Denice Smith of Missouri, Laura (Gary) Motarie of Newton and Susan (Rob) Ham of Reasnor; nine grandchildren, Jamie Jeter, Kalee Carey, Cory Wilcox, Andrea Davis, Tyler and Taylor Danley, and Treyton, Emma, and Grace Ham; nine great-grandchildren; her brother, David (Alicia) Young of St. Louis, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Debra; and a brother, Ronald Young.
