Snowshoes available for free checkout at Neal Smith NWR

The public is invited to explore the natural wonders the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge has to offer on snowshoes.

Snowshoes for children and adults are available to check out for free at the front desk of the Neal Smith NWR Visitor Center during normal business hours. The snowshoes must be returned before the visitor center closes for the day.

Normal business hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. At least four inches of snow on the ground is required for snowshoe use. For more information about weather conditions and amount of snow cover, call (515) 994-3400 before planning a trip to the refuge.
