NHS Key Club seeking donations from local businesses

While Cardinals fans will be in for plenty of basketball action Friday night at the Newton Senior High School gym, they’ll also have the opportunity to give back to community and, for a few lucky fans, come home with a Christmas present or two.

The NHS Key Club will host Christmas in the Gym on Friday, beginning at 6:15 p.m., where fans can donate items to the Salvation Army and will be entered into a drawing in return. The Community Cardinals also will be taking donations of gently used coats, mittens and winter wear during the event.

In addition to the Cardinals spirit wear up for grabs, the Key Club is asking for donations from local businesses in the form of gift certificates, mugs or whatever may serve as appropriate publicity for local businesses.

The club is also inviting businesses to start collection boxes for the Salvation Army at their locations. During the holiday season, the Salvation Army is most in need of food, clothing — especially underwear, socks, gloves, hats and mittens for children ages 0-14 — and unwrapped toys to put under the tree.

All businesses that donate in either capacity will be recognized during the event.

If your business is interested in donating to the NHS Key Club’s Christmas in the Gym, contact Jennie Kerns at (641) 792-5795, ext. 2253 or at kernsj@newton.k12.ia.us.
