Newton swimming takes fourth at Bobcat Invite

It was a tough go for the Newton boys swim team at the Bobcat Invitational in Marshalltown on Saturday, as the Cards finished last in a four-team field that included host Marshalltown, West Des Moines Valley and Cedar Rapids Kennedy.

Newton’s only victory on the day came in the 200-yard freestyle relay from the team of seniors Luke Norcross and Matheus Pinto. The duo swam a time of 1 minute, 41.34 seconds to finish just two seconds off of the meet record and defeat second-place Valley by two seconds as well.

The Cards finished fourth in every other event besides the 100-yard free relay, in which Newton took third. The team of seniors Josh Smith and Ryan Jolivette finished in 50.38 seconds.
