Bill Lammers

William M. “Bill” Lammers, 58, of Mt. Vernon, Ill., died on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon after a courageous battle with ill health.

He was born Sept. 13, 1954, in Newton, the son of Capt. Retired Marvin E. and Marilyn (Walker) Lammers. He married Deborah Grothoff on Jan. 19, 1996, in Mt. Vernon.

Bill graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1975 and attended classes at DMACC. He worked at Progress Industries and Woodward Hospital, was a full-time National Guardsman for which he received a medal for meritorious service, and was of the Catholic faith. He was an organ donor.

He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Lammers of Newton; wife, Debbie Lammers, stepdaughter, Melissa Knappier, step-grandchildren, Dylan and Devin Bruns, all of Mt. Vernon; step-grandson Guy Twiggs of Smithboro, Ill.; brother, Mark Lammers of Gainesville, Ga.; sisters, Anne Wessinger and Jeanne Payne, of Newton, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.

In honor of his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no visitation or funeral services. He will be administered last rites of the Catholic church by Father John Effert. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
