NCT cast to perform ‘Miracle on 34th Street’ beginning Friday

It hardly seems likely there are too many people today who haven’t seen the classic 1947 film “Miracle on 34th Street.”

The Oscar-winning film tells the story of Kris Kringle, who takes the job of department store Santa at the Macy’s flagship store on 34th Street in New York City, but is later put on trial when he insists he is the real Santa Claus. Over the next 65 years, it has become a Christmas staple.

Friday night, the Newton Community Theatre will open its holiday production of a stage adaptation of “Miracle on 34th Street,” taking the audience back to New York City of 1947. Sue Beukema of NCT said the play will create “a world free of commercialism, where love and generosity of spirit are their own rewards.”
