PELLA — Dr. Mitch Blom, family practice physician at Pella Medical Clinic, was recently selected by a group of his co-workers as the November 2012 Shining Star at Pella Regional Health Center.

Blom, resident of Pella, was nominated based on his attitude, commitment, communication, privacy and sense of ownership.

Excerpt from his nomination:

“I have always thought Dr. Blom a very kind physician with excellent bedside manner. He has never been anything but friendly and helpful. When I have apologetically called him at home after hours for a question related to one of his patients, he never fails to assure me that he isn’t bothered at all.

Recently, one of his patients had an emergency and was referred immediately to a specialized hospital for care. There were numerous insurance hurdles with this referral. When Dr. Blom found this out, he went above and beyond to reassure the family that everything would be OK and worked consistently with the insurance company to achieve clearance. Dr. Blom spent his own time, both at work and after, ensuring the patient would receive timely attention for the medical condition and that it would be paid for without undue hardship. I am so impressed with his dedication to his patients, and am proud to say I work with the dedicated and professional team at Pella Regional.”

Shining Star is a reward and recognition program at Pella Regional designed to acknowledge an employee each month that demonstrates outstanding standards of behavior and inspires others to do their best.

Blom will receive a $100 gift, an ad in the local paper, a plaque and will automatically be included in the Shining Star of the Year award.
