Tigerhawk girls drop pair of

weekend games

Like the boys team, the Colfax-Mingo girls basketball team also took on Nevada and Grandview Park Baptist this weekend. The Tigerhawks dropped both games to fall to 0-4 on the season. C-M lost 57-27 to Nevada and 64-46 to GPB.

The Tigerhawks had the lead midway through the third quarter against GPB before the injury bug and foul trouble doomed them down the stretch.

“Having a lead for a good portion of the game and losing by 18 is a tough pill to swallow,” C-M coach Brandon Smith said. “Hopefully we can learn from this experience and finish strong the next time an opportunity presents itself.”

Senior Nicolette Husson had 10 points and 10 rebounds against Nevada, and then had 20 points and 17 rebounds against GPB. Fellow senior Sydnie Fahrney had nine points against Nevada and 12 against GPB.

L-S wrestlers take fifth

at Montezuma

The Lynnville-Sully wrestling team competed in an 11-team tournament on Saturday in Montezuma, where the Hawks finished sixth in the team standings.

L-S had 11 wrestlers compete, and eight of them placed sixth or better. Three of them — sophomore Cole Nickell, junior Caden Doll and sophomore Noah Zylstra — took third at 106, 160 and 170 pounds, respectively. Senior Levi Bennington was fourth at 152, junior Meliek Meyer was fifth at 145, while senior Jamison Goodyk (126), freshman Jack Hardin (182) and senior Shane Thompson (285) each took sixth.
