• Chad E. Coady, 21, of Newton was arrested on an Iowa State Patrol warrant for a felony drug charge after authorities located him at 1:49 a.m. Thursday at 1501 N. 11th Ave. E. #5C, the residence of Margaret E. Reeves. She was charged with accessory after the fact for not informing officers that Coady was there after she had been told by officers previously to inform them if he came to her residence. Both were taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Horal A. Doland, 67, of Newton was cited with unsafe passing after traveling east on South Fifth Avenue East at East Fifth Street South at 4:59 p.m. Nov. 20 and attempting to pass a vehicle driven by Robert E. Coram, 48, of Harvey, who was turning left into an apartment complex. No one was injured. Damage was estimated at $500 to Coram’s vehicle and $1,100 to Doland’s vehicle.

• Nicholas A. Georgou, 23, of Newton was charged with eight counts of forgery following an investigation into an incident reported April 5. Georgou was charged for writing eight checks totalling $619 on his father’s bank account. Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, and he was located at 8:40 p.m. Monday at 1301 W. 16th St. S. in Newton. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail. While arresting Georgou, authorities also located Brandon D. Robertson, 30, of Newton at the residence and determined Robertson was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear in court for an initial hearing on a driving while license suspended charge. Robertson also was taken to jail.

• Dewey J. Heaberlin, 22, of Des Moines was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped him at 11:14 p.m. Nov. 16 in the 200 block of South Eighth Avenue East for a headlight violation. He was giving a warning for the headlights and released to appear in court.

• Kacie L. Horstman, 16, of Newton was charged Thursday with forgery and fifth-degree theft after authorities responded to a complaint at 4 p.m. Nov. 20 from a Newton woman about forged checks. Horstman was charged for allegedly writing 16 checks totaling $321.84 on her grandmother’s bank account. She was referred to juvenile court services.

• Margaret L. Morgan, 62, of Colfax was cited with failure to yield after exiting the strip mall parking lot in the 300 block of Iowa Speedway Drive at 10:54 a.m. Saturday and colliding with southbound vehicle driven by Marjorie M. Vermillion, 87, of Newton. Vermillion complained of chest pain and was transported to Skiff Medical Center by ambulance. Morgan also complained of pain, and a passenger in her vehicle sustained a bump to the head during the accident. They were taken to Skiff by a family member. Damage was estimated at $1,000 to Vermillion’s vehicle and $1,300 to Morgan’s vehicle.

• Margie E. Novak, 61, of Newton was cited with failure to yield after traveling south at 12:41 p.m. Nov. 21 on First Street, entering the intersection at North Fourth Avenue West without stopping completely at the stop sign and colliding with an eastbound vehicle driven by Alice J. Faust, 79, of Newton. No one was injured. Damage was estimated at $2,000 to Faust’s vehicle and $2,500 to Novak’s vehicle.

• Thomas J. Odem, 32, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities responded to a complaint at 9:15 p.m. Sunday of a man opening a package with a torch tip at Walmart and taking the item, valued at $14.97. He was released to appear in court.

• Michael D. Perin, 28, of Newton was arrested and charged with interference with official acts after authorities responded to a suspicious ambulance call at 12:12 p.m. Saturday at 329 E. 13th St. N. in Newton. Police observed Perin leaving the residence in an agitated state, and he allegedly refused to cooperate with officers’ orders. He was charged and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Sydney L. Pickett, 22, of Newton was charged with public intoxication after authorities observed her urinating in an alley at 1:28 a.m. Thursday in 100 block of First Avenue East. She appeared to be unsteady on her feet and had bloodshot, watery eyes. She was charged and released to appear in court.

• Nathan L. Stroup, 41, of St. Louis, Mo., was arrested on a Jefferson County, Mo., warrant for trafficking drugs, second offense, after Newton police located him when responding to a complaint of a disturbance at 1:57 p.m. Sunday at 309 W. 12th St. S. Stroup was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Martin A. Watters, 44, of Newton was charged with criminal trespass after authorities responded to a complaint at 10 a.m. Sept. 28 at 1120 W. Ninth St. S. of a male in the resident’s yard with a barking dog. The resident told police that the man had identified himself as a worker for Direct TV and indicating he was checking out the residence. Watters was charged with trespass on Nov. 15 and released to appear in court.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 15 and older.
