Newton girls doubled up by No. 2 Winterset

The Newton girls basketball team’s tough nonconference schedule continued on Tuesday night and showed just how tough it could be.

Traveling to Class 4A No. 2 Winterset, the Cardinals suffered a 76-38 loss at the hands of the Huskies. Three Winterset players finished in double digits, with sophomore Mariah Criswell leading the way with 26 points.

Leading the way for Newton was senior Kaylie Rhoads, who finished with 10 points and four assists. Fellow senior Anna Latcham was right behind with eight points while, sophomore Sarah Kalkhoff had five with a team-high seven rebounds. Senior Amanda Richtsmeier and sophomore Shelby Gray each had four points off the bench, senior Katelyn Camp added three and junior Lizzie Stock and senior Micaela Sciarrotta rounded out the scoring with two each.
