Lahart, Newton receive soccer honors at Simpson College

Earlier this month, a pair of 2009 Newton Senior High School graduates — Mark Lahart and Brian Newton — earned honors to cap off their senior soccer season at Simpson College.

Lahart — a senior midfielder for the Storm — earned second-team All-Iowa Conference honors and also was named Simpson’s Male Athlete of the Month for October.

Lahart’s second-team honor is the first of his career after experiencing his best season for the Storm in 2012. He scored a career-high seven goals on the year and tied for the team lead with nine assists. He scored one game-winner and closed his career with 17 assists, tied for fifth in school history.
