SULLY — The Lynnvile-Sully wrestling team began its 2012-2013 season Tuesday night, hosting a quadrangular vs. Sigourney, Moravia and Pekin in Sully.

The Hawks got off to a positive start, going 2-1 on the night. The dropped a tough first dual to Sigourney 40-36 before rebounding to beat Moravia 48-24 and Pekin 54-36.

Those four were junior and returning state qualifier Caden Dolll at 160 pounds, freshman Colten Roorda at 113, senior Jamison Goodyk at 126 and sophomore Noah Zylstra at 170. Four wrestlers also went 2-1 — sophomore Cole Nickell (106) senior Malin Meyer (120), junior Payton Scandridge (138) and senior Levi Bennington (152).

"We wrestled a lot better in the last match than we did all night," L-S head coach Steve Northcutt said. We still have a lot to work on, but going 2-1 tonight wasn't too bad."

The Hawks' match against Sigourney was highlighted by a thrilling win from Scandridge, who trailed 6-2 entering the third period before earning a pin with 1 minute and two seconds left in the match. Doll also had a pin, Goodyk and Zylstra won by decisions, while Nickell, Roorda and freshman Cooper Scandridge (220) received forfeits.

Against Moravia, Lynnville-Sully essentially had the match in hand before it even started. In the matches that were wrestled, L-S picked up wins from Bennington and Zylstra, while Roorda, Meyer, Goodyk, senior Austin Newell (132), Scandridge and Doll each received forfeits.

Against Pekin, the Hawks won the first four matches of the dual, dropped the next three and then won the next four.
