Free Alzheimer’s education session set for Dec. 5 in Pella

Pella Regional Health Center and Home Instead Senior Care are offering a free Alzheimer’s Education Session from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the Comfort House meeting room at 505 Union Street. The session consists of three main topics: Techniques to Manage Behaviors; Activities to Encourage Engagement; and Caring for Yourself While Caring for a Loved One.

“Caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias can be both frightening and exhausting,” said Jonna Wisnieski, owner of the local Home Instead Senior Care office. “Knowledge and support helps to make this very difficult job more manageable.”

The goal of the workshop is to help families manage the challenges of Alzheimer’s and other dementias, diseases that eventually rob seniors of their memories and independence.

“Alzheimer’s is an under-utilized diagnosis in hospice, but it is a diagnosis we are trained to help significantly with,” said Jill Villalobos, director of hospice with Pella Regional. “We’re excited to partner with Home Instead and bring this valuable information to the community.”
