Mustang girls drop opener to Nevada, 50-36
It was a see-saw battle, but the Prairie City-Monroe girls basketball team fell behind in the third quarter and couldn’t recover in its season opener Tuesday night.
Sophomore Grace Telfer led the way for the Mustangs (0-1, 0-1 Heart of Iowa Conference) with 13 points, but a well-rounded effort from Nevada led to a 50-36 Mustang defeat.
After putting up just seven points in the first quarter, PCM recovered for 15 in the second to trail just 24-22 at halftime. However, Nevada outscored the Mustangs 16-4 in the third and the teams came to a 10-10 stalemate in the fourth to end the game.
