Hawk girls basketball dominates Sigourney
The Lynnville-Sully girls basketball team lost its season-opener last Friday, but bounced back nicely Tuesday night with a dominant home win over Sigourney in South Iowa Cedar League action. The Hawks (1-1, 1-1) cruised past the Savages, 54-18.
Lynnville-Sully led 28-10 at halftime and didn’t let up, shooting 50 percent from the field (20-of-40) while holding Sigourney to 16.7 percent (6-of-36). The Hawks had a 30-19 rebounding advantage, dished out 14 assists and came up with 17 steals. They did most of their scoring down low as 34 of their 54 points came in the paint.
Junior Cassie Cullen led Lynnville-Sully’s attack with 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and five steals. Sophomore Rachel Van Wyk had nine points, eight rebounds and two blocks, while junior Lyndsay Terpstra had nine points and four steals. Junior Becca Vos added seven points as eight different Hawk players scored.
“We played much better. We really did a better job of execution on both ends of the floor tonight,” Lynnville-Sully coach Jerry Hulsing said. “It was nice to see some of the things we have been working on in practice come out in a game. The girls came out ready to get after it.”
The Hawks are now off until Nov. 30, when they host Keota.
