Iowa’s Johnson named Big Ten Player of the Week

IOWA CITY (U of I) — University of Iowa senior center Morgan Johnson has been named Big Ten Player of Week for her efforts in the Preseason WNIT semifinals and championship game. The announcement was made Monday by the conference office.

Johnson averaged 20 points, 9.5 rebounds and shot 76.2 percent (16-of-21) from the floor against two opponents receiving votes in the national polls.

Johnson started the week with 20 points (8-of-10 FGs), eight rebounds and two blocks in Iowa’s overtime win over Middle Tennessee. She followed with her 13th career double-double in the championship game against North Carolina, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

The award is Johnson’s second career weekly honor from the Big Ten. She was named Big Ten Player of the Week last year after scoring 37 points at Bradley.

Johnson and the Hawkeyes return to action tonight when they take on Robert Morris at 7 p.m. inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
