Key Cooperative's Sheets awarded PMCI top award

Lynn Sheets of Key Cooperative in Sully has been recognized by his peers with their highest honor, the coveted “Bucket Box Award.”

The award was presented during the closing dinner at the annual convention held at Prairie Meadows Conference Center. Petroleum marketers, convenience store owners and decision makers gathered at this event to network and attend educational sessions.

The origin of the Bucket Box Award dates back to 1982 and was specially designed to include an historic piece of equipment called a bucket box counter. In the earlier days of the oil industry, this device was used to measure the amount of oil in a barrel.

The award, presented annually by the Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Stores of Iowa, recognizes those who have worked on behalf of the petroleum industry and within their communities in civic affairs as well as being highly regarded by their peers in the business. Eldon Meyers and Dawn Carlson, chairman and director of the association, respectively, presented Sheets with the award.

“Lynn exemplifies what this award is all about," Meyers said. "He has generously contributed his time and talents to our Industry and has been very effective. Examples of such contributions include past service on the PMCI Board, regular attendance and support of PMCI events, and a deep engagement in the legislative process including innumerable calls and visits to the State House on behalf of our members.”

Sheets served on the PMCI Board of Directors from 2003 to 2011. In 2007 he was PMCI’s Chairman of the board. Lynn has served on the front line and behind the scenes within our general membership, and that continues to be the case today.

"To the ears of native Iowans, Lynn’s pronounced Texas drawl could be interpreted as casual, but his business approach and engagement to the issues is anything but casual," Meyers said. "Perhaps the greatest attribute that qualifies Lynn for the PMCI Bucket Box Award is his willingness to say, 'Yes,' when called upon."
